What using Othen means.
This page is maintained by the Othen team to answer common questions about how the product may be used. It is written in plain English and is not a substitute for legal advice.
What Othen is for
Othen helps you think through a personal decision more carefully. It structures the reasoning, asks a few useful questions, and (if you invite them) brings in one or two people who know you or the situation. You stay the one who decides.
What Othen is not
It is not legal, medical, financial, tax, or emergency advice. It is not a replacement for a qualified professional. For anything with real legal, health, or safety consequences, please speak with the right person.
Your ownership of a decision
When you start a decision without an account, Othen generates a private key in your browser. Whoever holds that key can view, revisit, and delete the decision. If you sign in, your decisions are linked to your account so you can reach them from other devices.
Inviting people
Each invitation is a single, private link. By sending it, you are asking that person to answer one question. They may see your decision statement and their own question. They do not see other invitees' answers unless you show them. You can revoke a link at any time before they respond.
Share links
If you create a share link for a recommendation, anyone with that link can view the recommendation and the reasoning. They cannot see your original words or the private answers of the people you invited. You can revoke a share link at any time.
Acceptable use
Please don't use Othen to plan harm to yourself or others, to make decisions on behalf of someone who hasn't asked, to obtain unauthorized access to accounts or data, or to break the law. Othen may refuse or stop a decision when a request crosses those lines.
Limitation of liability
Othen is provided as-is. It is a thinking tool, not a guarantee. To the extent permitted by law, Othen and its team are not liable for the outcomes of decisions you make while using it.
Changes
These terms may change as the product grows. If they change materially, the top of this page will say when.
